After several interviews, Dr. Ortega finally decided to attend the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) School of Dentistry. The MCV dental program consists of four years of education. The first two years consist of classroom and lab instruction, and the last two years also include clinical work experience.

(The mission of the MCV School of Dentistry is to train dental practitioners to meet the general oral health care needs of the communities they serve. Within this mission is the explicit responsibility to provide future practitioners with the analytical and technological skills which will allow them to be efficient providers of quality oral health care to the public, to be lifetime learners, and to advance dental knowledge.)

After four years of very intense studying, Dr. Ortega graduated from dental school with honors. Rather than immediately working in a private practice associateship, she looked forward to gaining more experience with complex surgical procedures in a general practice residency. She believed that this would enhance her ability to be the skillful dentist that she had always wanted to be. To her, this was like putting icing on the cake.
